August 2, 2026

		The previous quilt top is finished and in the hands of a quilter to add the batting, back and quilt them together. This is done on a "long-arm" quilting machine, I don't have a machine big enough for this. When that's done I'll finish up by hand sewing the binding and adding a label. Meanwhile, I had made some blocks to add into the quilt but found that they weren't needed so I made them into these two lap quilts. I'm working my way through my fabric stash, so anything I make is using pieces of fabric I already have which makes the quilts kind of scrappy, but it keeps me out of the fabric stores! Unlike many other quilters I don't save scraps. Fortunately, one member of my quilting group likes to make quilts from small scraps, so I save them for her thus additionally reducing my fabric stash.

July 11, 2026

		Once again the women of the Cain family visited some of the wineries of Niagara on the Lake. Our designated drivers this time were Ron, Ken and Joel. We visited four wineries; Caroline Cellars, Pondview Estate Winery, Chateau des Charmes Wines, and Riverview Cellars Winery. Of these, I enjoyed Caroline and Riverview most. At the end of the day we all enjoyed dinner at the Old Firehall in St. Davids

		I have been planning a quilt for one of the extra beds and even have some strips cut out, but one of the women in my quilting club found this one and didn't know where it came from. Since she didn't want to finish it, she gave it to me. I will add a border and an extra row or two of blocks to make it a little larger.

We're getting closer to furnishing the livingroom. One hurdle was finding a futon that we liked. We bought finally one from Home Depot and the two of us assembled it over two days. It wasn't hard only a little awkward. Since the only options for the mattress were black or grey, we went with grey and I'm working on adding some cushions to give it a splash of color. It folds out to a double bed for guests; One end table is assembled and the other is a work in progress.

		When we had the kitchen re-done last fall, we also replaced the stove and the microwave. The Frigidaire microwave failed (spectacularly) just six months later with a flash and a grinding noise. Then the fun of dealing with Frigidaire's warranty with their customer abuse department. The warranty consisted of only refunding the original less tax. Since it was on sale when we bought it this didn't even cover the cost of a new one let alone tax, delivery, uninstalling the old one and having the new one installed. In addition, they had no interest in finding out why the failure happened. We were in the kitchen at the time but if we had been anywhere else it could have caused a fire, a fact that Frigidaire had no interest in investigating. We went back to Home Depot (where the customer service was MUCH better) and bought a new microwave, this one was not a Frigidaire!

April 12, 2026

		Mid March we were treated to one last (we hope) blast of winter. The white stuff hung around for a few days before warmer weather and rain sccared it away. We're well into April and (we hope) spring is finally here. A couple of times a week Ron and I have lunch at the senior center in Youngstown. On the Wednesday before Easter I won this beautiful hyacinth. It's sitting on the kitchen counter, and I get a whiff of its perfume every time I walk by, so pleasant. I hope to move it to the garden when planting time comes. Since it's April, we're getting ready to file our taxes, a lot of work, but I know our government will spend the money wisely, as always.

February 18, 2026

Ron and I decided to join the YMCA in Lockport to increase our exercise level. It's a very new and quite impressive facility. It's a half hour drive each way, but they have the only indoor pool in the county. In fact, they have 2 pools as well as a kiddie pool. The pool area also has a sauna and a steam room (which I haven't used yet) They have impressive gym facilities as well as a walking track which Ron uses when we visit.

February 6, 2026

		My sewing room was in need of a major reorganization to make it usable. The fabric collection was still in plastic totes since the move and, due to a lack of space, they were stacked making it hard to find something when I needed it. I tried to use some stacked drawers, but they were not sturdy enough to hold the weight. I switched to a chrome wire rack and fabric cubes with clear fronts; this works much better. The valance is made from some sewing-themed fabric that I had on hand.

January 29, 2026

Winter hit with a huge dump of snow on January 16th with over 9 inches of show. It's been below freezing since then with more snow coming every couple of days. Between the berms from plowing, and drifts, we have snow piles as high as 6 feet with more coming. We have a service that clears the driveway and walk whenever the accumulation is 3 inches or more, they've been very busy this month. Even with the plowing once or twice per day, Ron still had to clear the walkway to the front door a couple of times. We've gotten over 30 inches between the end of December and the end of January!

January 16, 2026

Today we got a really serious snowfall of the winter and are pretty much homebound for at least a few days. We've been here for a little over a year and are finally getting around to hanging pictures and other decorating. Basically we just open a box and figure out what to do with the pictures in there. We decorated one corner of the kitchen and got new, more interesting drapes for the living room and the patio doors.

January 12, 2026

2026 has gotten off to a roaring start. On New Year's Day the dryer stopped working so January 2nd found us at Home Depot shopping for a new one. It took a week for it to be delivered and, by then, we had quite a backlog of laundry to do.
